Best Dressed: Oscars

Best Dressed
Michelle Williams
Chanel Couture
After her Golden Globes disaster we all knew Michelle had to redeem herself somehow. How does one do that? Couture, Chanel Couture to be exact. This dress appears so simple but up close you can see exactly how much time and effort and detail went into it. Simply stunning is how I would describe this look. The hair was perfect and almost matched the dress (which could have been awful but totally worked) and her very minimal jewels created a fantastic minimalist ice princess look to be remembered for years to come.
Cate Blanchett
Givenchy Couture
Go ahead and click on the pictures (they're in HQ!) and just look at the details. This Givenchy dress is just what it is all about. I'm literally speechless about this dress. It's just so perfect and stunning. This dress literally belongs in a museum. I just knew when I saw Cate on the red carpet that she would be my best dressed. I am just rambling at this point about the sheer perfection of this dress, just do yourself a favor and take a moment to look at the dress up close and just let it speak for itself because I can do it no justice.

Best Dressed: Oscars

Runners Up
Gwyneth Paltrow
in Calvin Klein Collection
I loved the sheer simplicity of this dress. It is so clean and minimal yet so interesting at the same time. She really let the dress do the talking and boy did it have alot to say.
Mila Kunis
Elie Saab Couture
Not my favorite dress from Elie's couture collection but beautiful none the less. The detailing and sheer beauty of this dress make it appealing to both the public and the fashion world. She really showed that she can be both the girl next door and the glamour girl in the same dress.
Florence Welch
in Valentino Couture
It's classic Florence; one part edgy, one part girly, one part kitschy. I really wanted to see a dress from this collection on the Oscars carpet and who else to deliver it than Miss Florence.
Natalie Portman
in Rodarte
I totally expected Natalie to look like a mess, she hasn't been doing good so far this season but I did like this dress, but I was a bit underwhelmed. However, the hair and the jewelry are wonderfully complimentary and simply fantastic.
Hilary Swank
Gucci Premiere
I love feathers on dresses and it was something else I wanted to see on the carpet and lord did Hilary kill it. I honestly didn't expect much from her but she really went out of her way to deliver and kill it.
Nicole Kidman
in Christian Dior Couture
I've learned not to expect much from Nicole Kidman on the red carpet. She usually looks terribly boring and dated. After she killed it on the red carpet at the Grammy's I had a renewed faith in her. This dress was stepping out of her comfort zone but still classic. It wasn't my favorite dress and I think she could have done better but I can take what I get.
Hailee Steinfeld
in Marchesa
No one would have blamed Hailee from showing up wearing a diamond tiara and the biggest chiffon and sequined ball gown you can imagine. She is a teenage girl and nominated for an Oscar! What she did was a very subdued version of that. The dress is actually something she sketched and Marches brought to life and I think it is just fantastic she really showed that not only does she have great taste but she has an eye and a talent for design and fashion.

Monday Pick-Me-Up

It's not even noon and I'm already hating life today. So what better way to start my week off showcasing the excellent looks of Diane Kruger during her recent press tour for Unknown.

Best of Fall 2011

Altuzarra
Joseph Altuzarra hit all the right notes on his most recent collection, for me at least. His inspiration was a picture of Kate Moss from her Johnny Depp days wearing a parka over an evening dress. How can anyone go wrong with that idea in their head? With clear 90's grunge influence and a bit of a slouchy retro feel to the dresses it is clear that Joseph is hitting his stride. After this collection I can't imagine why starlets are banging down the door to wear his sexy and body conscious designs.

Honestly speaking, the BAFTA's Red Carpet was the best of the year so far. It seemed like every lady looked glamourous and put together. The dresses were unique and unexpected and Emma Stone finally wore that Lanvin I have been waiting to see on the red carpet!
